A Post for My Mom

My mom requested a new post so here's to you, Mom! It will be sans pictures but at least there will be something new to read. When my parents came to visit we did so many fun things! We went to Seattle and saw our old houses and some of our friends. We also went to Mt. Hood and hiked around, which was cool because I don't think Lane and I would've ever gotten over there without them. While we were on Mt. Hood, we went on an alpine slide, which is one of my most favorite activities. It's like bobsledding down a mountain, only in the summer! My mom and I played in the clay a little bit and made some fun stuff, and all of us went down the river one super hot day and went swimming. Lane caught lots of crawdads and made a crawdad "prison" (he let them go when we left, don't worry). All in all, it was a great trip and a great week for them to visit (it was overcast the day they left, no joke. and it hasn't gotten hot since).

Recently...Lane and I have been washing windows, which is actually quite a lucrative job when we have clients, but it isn't as often as it used to be because of "dun dun dun" the economy. Still, it's working out ok and then we have time to do other things like organize the house (me) and play video games (Lane). Just kidding about that last part (kind of). We went and played tennis on Saturday and it was really fun! I'm horrible but I still like it anyway. I think Lane gets kind of frustrated because he played tennis in high school so he has to go really easy on me the whole time. I'm thinking about taking a tennis class at BYU to get better though.

So lately I've been trying to do new things that are fun so I can have some good hobbies. I started trying to teach myself to play the piano because I never learned ( I took clarinet and violin in elementary/middle school) and it's such a great skill to have. I'm no Mozart, but it's fun to try. I'm also trying to learn how to knit. I just realized the things I'm trying to do are things that are so helpful to have an instructor in...seeing things done makes so much more sense than reading directions. So if any of you are in the Portland area and would like to be my piano/knitting instructor, please let me know. I can pay you in raspberries and apples.

We finally bought our plane tickets out to Florida the middle of August for Kylie's wedding! We were roommates all through college until I got married. Lane and I are so excited that she's getting married. Now we can go on couples dates! Oh also we're so excited because Lane finally gets to go to Disneyworld for the first time. He is ecstatic.

Right after Kylie's wedding we fly back home and have to drive out to Utah because school starts the end of August! I decided to spread out my last semester over 2 semesters so that I'll actually have fond memories of college, and so I can afford to take some fun classes. Therefore, my mention above of taking tennis class. I think I'll also take a beginning piano class, and Lane, Kylie, and I are all taking a flower arranging class which strangely enough counts toward our GE's.

Ok well this has been a long and random post so sorry if you can't follow it, but this desperately needed to be updated, and next time I promise I'll give you pictures.

One of My Favorite Things About Oregon...

is having fresh fruit! If you really need any more proof that Oregon (and especially where we're living this summer) is the Garden of Eden, look no further than these pictures:



Home-grown cherries and pears, yum! Also on the way: apples, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, corn, tomatoes, and bell peppers. When I told my mom about this, she was really jealous, but luckily she'll get to experience this in all its glory in a few weeks because MY PARENTS ARE COMING UP TO VISIT!!!!!!!!

Finally!

I decided to update our blog after a 6 month hiatus. Sooo...what have we been up to since November? Here's a quick rundown:
We decorated our apartment for our first Christmas together. It was so fun!


And for Christmas we went to California with my parents. We went to Hollywood and saw the stars' homes, Rodeo Drive, and Graumann's Chinese Theater, Santa Monica Pier, Venice Beach (not quite so fun when it's freezing and windy), and DISNEYLAND! It was Lane's first time going to all of those places so it was fun to show him around. He adored Disneyland and can't wait to go to Disneyworld in August for Kylie's wedding. It was really cool to see Disneyland all decked out for Christmas-some of the rides like the Haunted Mansion and It's a Small World looked completely different because they were all decorated. The only other time I've seen Disney do this is when we went to Disneyworld for Halloween when I was 10, and then they kept the park open extra late and let all the kids trick-or-treat, which was sooo fun!




We made cinnamon rolls from a recipe on we found online and they really tasted EXACTLY like Cinnabon. I think the frosting is the key.

We had a pretty low-key Valentine's day but this is a picture of our front door which I decorated with the things I like about Lane.

Lane was sick on Easter, but he still woke up early to hide our Easter eggs around the apartment for me-how sweet!

We went to Cabo for a week with my parents (yes, during the swine flu scare!) and Lane fished almost every day with only fishing line tied onto a bottle. Obviously, it worked!


We're basically living in the Garden of Eden at Lane's house in Oregon for the summer.

When we went to the grocery store on Tuesday, they were having a sale on onions so Lane was insistent we buy lots of extra, chop them up, and freeze them for later usage. Here he is hard at work! (and yes, he IS wearing his snowboarding goggles)

I Don't Want a Lot for Christmas...

Well, it's getting to be that time again...the holiday season is upon us, which means that I'm starting to get bored in my classes. Therefore, so as to still be productive, during my sociology class I made my Christmas list! For any of you thinking of getting me a present, here's a selection of gifts at all price ranges for your benefit:

-Brown flat boots
-a sewing machine (I don't know what's a good kind or anything, I just know I want to sew!)
-a sweater vest
-ski boots (if you find any that are wide enough to comfortably fit my feet you would be my favorite person ever)
-Win a Date with Tad Hamilton DVD
-some cool tights to keep me warm! They have awesome ones out now like these and all of these. I got some sweet diamond ones last year but they got a snag on them!
-a cool tripod so I don't have to balance my camera on the car hood and risk it breaking
Oh yeah, shoes and clothes are always very well-received also!

More Blazers...

Last night we went to another Blazers-Jazz game with Kylie and Lane's old roommates Beau and Tyson. We of course were fully dressed in Blazers apparel and it was really fun! The Blazers were ahead for 3 quarters, then blew their lead and the Jazz ended up winning. They do that almost every time I see them play. It's really frustrating because they're obviously a good team but they just don't have staying power yet. Hopefully they can develop it since they're still a young team. (Can you believe I'm saying all of this stuff? 2 years ago I wouldn't have been able to tell Brandon Roy from Joel Pryzbilla!)


Kylie and I weren't as invested in the game as the guys, so we still had fun.

Lane’s dad Theron came down to visit us 2 weeks ago (was it really that long since we’ve updated? We need to shape up…) We went bowling, went to a haunted forest that Lane’s uncle owns, went to a Blazer game, and drove up Provo Canyon to look at the fall colors. It was so great having him here and we can’t wait until he comes back again!

We had pretty bad seats but with binoculars the action was great!


For Halloween we went to a party where we played games. We played a new one called pumpkin bowling which was AWESOME! You fill up 2 liter bottles and set them up in pin form, then bowl with pumpkins. Some were rotten and some broke as we bowled them, but that was half the fun. There was a donut-on-a-string eating contest too, which Lane of course dominated. Our prize was a box of 100 watches. We’re not really sure what to do with them…anyone want one? Let me know if you do.

Then yesterday, after sleeping in, we decided to go mini golfing since it was such a nice day. We made a bet that whoever won golf gets to pick the next movie we watched. Well, after 18 intense holes of golf, we had a tie, so as a tiebreaker we played another 18 holes. We had ANOTHER tie so we then we had a sudden death golf-off. We tied like 10 more times but Lane finally beat me by one stroke. So hopefully he picks a good movie! We’re having so much fun being married and living in Provo, and we can’t wait to see my parents when they come for Thanksgiving!!!!!! (hopefully we’ll blog before then though).
